D. Ermine

$1,800.00

Many years ago I visited Japan, and we stayed at a Buddhist temple in the country outside Hiroshima that my family had been priests at for generations.

We ate fern shoots gathered in the mountains and small fish the villagers caught in the streams that ran into the rice fields. When the workday was done they rang a huge brass bell to let the workers know it was time to come in. The house was in the traditional style, with sliding shoji screens that opened onto the central courtyard from all the rooms. I still remember the delicate moths that gathered on the screens at night, so different from what I was used to seeing in Hawaii.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Like those ethereal beauties, D. Ermine takes you out of the familiar and invites you to look around with wonder under the light of a cool new moon.

Acrylic paint on canvas with aluminum support, acrylic polymer, archival adhesive and brass ring. 2022
