Thrum

In Zen Buddhism, painting bamboo is part of a meditative practice.

I wanted to explore how a single brushstroke, applied deliberately and with intention, could convey a full range of depth and detail.

In a space, this piece has an unmistakable presence that invites the viewer to come in for a closer look to enjoy all the details and texture: fuzzy edges, organic color, nothing fussy or polished. Each brushstroke calls attention to the surface and the material of the painting, creating a visceral and emotional experience.
