Created for the light-filled lobby of the Royal Sonesta Chicago, this group of four sculptural paintings draws from distinct American landscapes, including mesas, high desert, and expansive fields. Their jewel-toned palettes evoke precious stones and the geological terrain from which they emerge, while the folded canvas brings organic warmth and physical presence to the hotel’s welcoming Midwestern interior.
Commissioned through Indiewalls and created in Susan Maddux’s Los Angeles studio, the project was one of her earliest long-distance commissions.
