Murmur
Folding paintings creates dimension while concealing much of the painting surface, completely transforming the canvas and revealing a sculptural presence with depth and complexity.
The patterning on this piece is inspired by bamboo stalks, known for their resilience, tenacity and adaptable nature. In this body of work, I used these brushstrokes as a personal meditation on history and repetition.
Contrasting loose brushstrokes with smooth gradients that recall the skies in Yukio-e woodcut prints, this folded painting presents an enigmatic, totemic form.
