LA Design Weekend 2026
Deep Lines
Weight Through Time
A working studio exhibition where ephemeral materials acquire unexpected weight, volume, and presence through sustained acts of making.
Featuring the work of Susan Maddux, Mark Chamness, Janna Stark, Clay Morrow and Eamonn Gilleran.
During LA Design Weekend, the Deep Lines Studio becomes a place where architecture, art, and design are explored as overlapping modes of inquiry, united by a shared interest in material transformation, process, and making. In this exhibition, traditional materials are used in unexpected ways to produce surprising results.
Architectural presence, mass and volume are built through sustained engagement with traditional materials and techniques, resulting in new forms discovered through the process. Accumulated labor, memory and time are visible in the finished objects. Time itself becomes material, through repetition, patience and craft.
Rather than simply exploring "materiality," the exhibition proposes that time itself becomes material, compressed into objects through repetition, patience, and craft.
