Cobalt Queen
A large-scale folded painting first shown at the Oceanside Museum of Art.
Now available, this singular work harmonizes elaborate folding with tonal gradients to create a powerful, otherworldly presence—an apparition, a portal, a sentinel.
Color sinks and rises across the surface, revealing depth and resonance with every shift of light. Cobalt Queen emerged through a slow evolution, as very new or powerful things often do. Composed of individual sections once discarded from earlier sculptures, the configuration came together through intuition and discovery.
One of my favorite ways to work is through response—listening to what the materials want to become. In that open, focused state, the unexpected can take shape. This piece felt like a gift—an arrival that revealed itself through the process of creation.
